The baptism preparation group usually meets on the first Saturday of the month at 9.30 am in the church hall, here at St James’ Church. If interested in baptism, please contact Rev’d Peter Mullins, Rev’d Peter Wilson, Rev’d Julie Roberts or Mr Jeff Chaplain (Baptism Coordinator) to find out more and confirm your intention of coming to the group that morning.
Toddler Praise meets on a Tuesday at 2.00 pm (term time only).
We have a lively group of toddlers who meet with parents, grandparents and childminders. We spend a short time in Church enjoying music, singing and bible stories. This is followed by a time of play in the church hall with drinks and biscuits for children, while adults can have a cuppa and a chat. Everyone is welcome.
Friday Church meets at 6.00 pm – 7.15 pm (term time only)
All children aged 5 – 12 years are welcome, initially and ideally accompanied by a responsible adult. We enjoy bible stories, discussions, activities and some supper – (contributions are always appreciated). This is an opportunity for the children to build friendships with each other and learn more about Christianity.
The children (and adults) of Friday Church performed a drama of the Last Supper. After a very messy dress rehearsal the week before, we left it in the hands of God. The children “came up trumps” and performed well. They finished by singing one of their songs – ably assisted by the congregation – and closed with their louder version of the prayer that Jesus taught us. Well done kids! We are really proud of you!
Places of Welcome is a growing network of hospitality run by local community groups who want to make sure that everyone in their area has a place to go for a friendly face, a cup of tea and a conversation if and when they need it. A place where people feel safe to belong, connect and contribute.
Held in the Church Hall every Monday morning (except Christmas Day) between 10am and 12noon. Enjoyed by church members and visitors alike, people meet and chat over free hot drinks and biscuits.
Soup and Sandwiches
During the autumn, winter and spring months ‘soup and sandwiches’ takes place once a month on Saturday morning between 11.30 am and 1.30 pm.
Everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy homemade soup, sandwiches and cake (for a modest sum). This is a chance to meet up with friends and enjoy food and fellowship and an opportunity to meet new people. There is also a Bring and Buy Stall.
Thank you to eveyone who supports and we hope, enjoys these lunches, especially the helpers. Maybe it was the cold weather outside, but January’s lunch was especially popular and went very well!

French and Spanish Conversation Groups
The groups usually meet on Thursdays (term time only) in the church hall:-
7.00pm Spanish Conversation
8.30pm French Conversation
Still costing £11 00, (payable every five sessions which is roughly every half term), they continue to provide a good place to maintain, and even improve speaking and listening skills – ideal with approaching holidays in mind – and there is no written work, exams or assessments. All welcome.

Social Planning Meetings – more help always needed!
Please come and take part in the planning of future social and fund raising events. Not only can any fundraising help the church financially, but it also can add to the church’s contribution to life in our community. More ideas are always welcome and people even more so!
