This year (2017), on Sunday 30th April, the route came past st James’. The church stayed open throughout the morning until after the race had passed. Bacon sandwiches, cakes and hot drinks were available in the hall, and these were enjoyed by both church members and visitors.
The cavalcade passed. Almost two hours later many police motorbikes filled the road as they passed, followed by the race leaders. After a few minutes, the peloton arrived and was soon followed by a vehicle informing spectators that it was the last vehicle in the procession. The race went on to Haworth and beyond. TV coverage showed some lovely local scenery, but that was preceded by aerial views of St James and Haworth Road and some members of the congregation can even be identified as bright pink dots!
